If you’re taking part in the Computational Investing Part 1 course on Coursera, one of the first things you’ll need to do is install the Quant Software Toolkit. This package is supported on Ubuntu, Mac and Windows but unfortunately not Fedora.

As I’m using Fedora, that was a bit disappointing but they do provide the script for installing all the required dependencies on Ubuntu so I set about porting that script to Fedora.

It works pretty well and I was able to do all the tasks in the first tutorial of the Quant Software Toolkit so it seems like everything is installed okay. I did end up with two versions of pandas, one installed using yum and the other installed by pip when it installed QSTK. It doesn’t seem to matter and everything works so I’m going to leave it alone.

The script is released under the BSD license and you can find it below. If anyone wants to include it as part of the main distribution, I’d be quite happy for them to do so.
